North Cyprus Internet connectivity has improved dramatically in the last two years with several companies offering 30+ Mbps Internet connections at prices comparable to that of the UK.

However, getting an Internet connection in North Cyprus (one that you are happy with) is not quite as simple as checking out which Internet service provider is offering the fastest speed at the cheapest price.

Firstly, landline telephone connections are not available in 99% of new build properties in North Cyprus, particularly those in outlying areas. ADSL and VDSL Internet connections are only available in the towns and villages in properties with landline telephones. If a property hasn't got a landline telephone and it is possible to get one, there will almost certainly be a waiting list for lines and a telephone number which are in short supply.

The vast majority of residents rely upon mobile phone networks for telephone connectivity.

In the rest of Europe, the majority of Internet connections are usually delivered using Fiber Optic cables, if not right into the property, to an outside cabinet within close proximity. The final part of the connection (from the cabinet to the property) can terminate with Copper, Coaxial, or Fiber Optic cable. The type of cable used to connect the cabinet to the property and the distance between the two, determines the maximum achievable speed of the connection, but all types are usually, extremely reliable.

Fiber Optic cables are used to deliver Internet in North Cyprus, but the cables don't terminate inside the property, or to cabinets within close proximity, they terminate much further away from the property at a distance which can be anything from 100m to 3+ kilometers away from the property. This distance is usually referred to as "the last mile". Connections over the "last mile" use long distance wireless radio links, usually in a point to multi-point configuration
