I have stopped watching Sky News, whose exec's I have read, 'may' be considering whether or not, to partly, or completely move the channel away from terrestrial/linear broadcast TV to an online platform (if such a move is being planned, it 'may' be an indicator of the decline in popularity of terrestial/linear TV News services).
Neither do I watch the 'bleached' version of news, events and current affairs that is presented by BBC News.
I do watch GB News because I really enjoy listening (and watching) their guests present their arguments, for or against whatever topic is being discussed.
When a guest is appropriately qualified, or has experience and is knowledgeable on a topic and presents a reasoned and convincing argument, I listen to them intently, in silence. I listen to them because I have something to learn.
When a guest with a track record of bias on a particular subject, presents what is in my opinion, a 'tainted' view, or argument, I feel obliged to talk back to them and even on occasion, to 'shout' and 'splutter' at the TV. They probably appear with the intention of making people like me 'shout' and 'splutter' at the TV and if they succeed, they may in their opinion, have done their job.
Then there are the guests who 'seem' to have been substituted into slots to replace someone who is 'scheduled' to appear, but who, for whatever reason, cannot, or this is what 'appears' to have happened. These are the guests who usually, with limited knowledge on the topic in discussion, present a paper-thin argument. When this happens, it is time for me to a bit of channel surfing to see if there is anything more interesting on another channel.
Next, there are those who in my opinion, have just turned up to earn the appearance fee (if they are getting one), or just to get their fizzog on TV and usually, they don't 'seem' to care what viewers may think of them whilst they present their 'weak' or an 'insincere' argument.
Sometimes, a guest presents such a terrible argument, that it doesn't even deserve to be given due consideration. Generally, I ignore what they are saying completely and focus my attention on their hair, their teeth, the colour of their shirt that they are wearing, or their accent. Fickle ? Yes, so what ?
How can anyone think, or say that watching the news is boring ?
